Bears Celebrate Senior Night, Host Mustangs Friday

Northern Colorado closes out its home dual schedule against Cal Poly and honors three seniors
Northern Colorado will close out is home dual schedule on Friday as they host Cal Poly at 7 p.m.(MST). Friday night will be senior night for three Bears, as Sean Cannon, Austin Matthews and Sethan Bogulski will be honored at intermission.
Senior Night
Sean Cannon has been with the Bears for five seasons after redshirting as a freshman. Cannon as 27 wins, with three falls and six tech falls in his career. Since coming to UNC, Cannon has started 23 dual matches for the Bears. He also earned Academic All-Big 12, first team honors in 2019.
Austin Matthews transferred to UNC this season from Edinboro University and he also spent time at Clarion University perviously. Matthews is a three-time NCAA qualifier with 70 wins in his career. He has a 9-7 record this season with three falls and one tech fall. Matthews has posted 19 falls and six tech falls in his career.
Sethan Bogulski will leave UNC after spending four seasons on the mat for the Bears. Bogulski has 28 wins and has 26 dual starts in his career. During his final season, Bogulski has a 12-9 record, starting the past five duals for UNC. He placed sixth at the 2019 Reno Tournament of Champions and has three falls this season. Bogulski has recorded four falls and three tech falls total for his career. Off the mat, Bogulski earned Academic All-Big 12 first team honors in 2019 and second team honors in 2018.
Bears in the Rankings
In the weekly rankings, Andrew Alirez earned the No. 11 spot at 149-pounds from The Open Mat.com. The true freshman is listed at No. 12 Trackwrestling.com, No. 13 by Intermat.com, and No. 18 by FloWrestling.com.
Dalton Robertson is also No. 11 in Trackwrestling's rankings and comes in at No. 16 by Flow and No. 17 by Intermat for the 285-pound list.
Mosha Schwartz is ranked No. 16 by Trackwrestling at 133-pounds, while being No. 18 by Flow and No. 19 by Open Mat.
Jacob Seely stays at No. 19 by Trackwrestling and is ranked No. 21 by Flow for the 197-pound class.
Alan Clothier earns his best ranking from Trackwrestling at No. 23. Clotheir is No. 29 at 184-pounds by Open Mat's rankings as well.
Matthews picks up the No. 32 spot in Trackwrestling's rankings for the 165-pound class.
Five Bears were ranked in the first NCAA Coaches panel rankings, with the second rankings coming out on Feb. 13. Alirez leads the way for UNC with the No. 13 spot, followed by Dalton Robertson at No. 15.
Last Time Out
UNC dropped a 25-12 dual against Big-12 foe, North Dakota State this past Saturday. The Bears started the dual strong with Brody Lamb getting the fall on Dylan Droegemueller. The Bison would win the next five matches to lead 16-6 over the Bears. Clothier won a 12-5 decision to cut into the lead, but NDSU won the next two matches by decision to clinch the dual win. Jace Koelzer won a 5-2 decision over McGwire Midkiff to give UNC 's its third match win of the day.
UNC is 1-6 in dual matches and 1-4 against the Big 12.
Scouting the Mustangs
Cal Poly has a 3-4 record in dual matches this season, winning its last competition against California Baptist, 19-16. The Mustangs were down 7-0 early, but won the next for matches to jump ahead. A tech fall by 197-pounder, Tom Lane, put Cal Poly ahead for good.
The two teams met in San Luis Obisop, Calif. last season, with UNC defeating the Mustangs, 28-13. Robert Winters Jr. and Rico Montoya started each earned a fall to start the dual and Dalton Robertson would add another one to push the Bears ahead.
Following the Bears
Northern Colorado wrestling will host Cal Poly for Senior Night on Friday, Feb. 7, with the first bout starting at 7 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online at UNCBears.com/tickets, by calling the ticket office at 970-351-4849 or in-person 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the UNC Ticket office located in the Campus Commons.
Fans attending the match can enjoy $1 popcorn from the UNC Concessions.
