Regular Season Wraps Up in Colorado Springs for the Bears

Northern Colorado faces off against Air Force in the team's final dual on Sunday
The 2019-20 regular season ends on Sunday for Northern Colorado wrestling, as the team closes out its dual schedule against Air Force Sunday afternoon.
The NCAA released its second coaches' panel rankings and the first RPI rankings were also released. Five wrestlers were ranked by the coaches' panel and six earned RPI spots.
Andrew Alirez(149 lbs) and Dalton Robertson(285 lbs) both earned the No. 15 rankings in their respective weight classes, while Mosha Schwartz(133 lbs) was slated at No. 19. Jacob Seely(197 lbs) picked up the No. 21 ranking and Alan Clothier(184 lbs) earned the No. 27 spot.
For the RPI rankings, Jace Koelzer(125 lbs) earned the No. 33 spot to give UNC six in the initial set of rankings. Alirez is listed at No. 6 and Schwartz comes in at No. 12 for the RPI. Clothier moved up to No. 18, while Seely takes the No. 20 spot. Robertson rounds out the Bears in the RPI at No. 25.
On Thursday, the conference announced the first and second team Academic All-Big 12 for 2020. UNC had eight student-athletes, first team members with three second team members. Seely was one of four student-athletes in the conference to earn a 4.0 GPA.
UNC dropped two road duals last weekend against Utah Valley and Wyoming. The Bears were in a back-and-forth battle with the Wolverines that came down to the last match. Utah Valley managed to secure the win in the final bout as No. 11 Taylor LaMont defeated No. 18 Schwartz in an 11-9 decision.
In the second dual of the weekend, UNC faced Wyoming, dropping the dual, 22-11. The Bears won four matches, but the Cowboys scored bonus points in three of their wins.
Scouting the Falcons
Air Force has a 4-7 record in dual matches this season and is 1-6 in Big 12 matchups. The Falcons have dropped its past two matches, both against Big 12 opponents. This past Friday, Air Force fell 24-10 to Oklahoma in Norman, winning three bouts. Then on Sunday, the Falcons lost in Fargo, ND, 31-6 against the Bison, picking up two bout wins.
In the national rankings, Air Force has two wrestlers in the national rankings and NCAA coaches' panel. Sidney Flores(125 lbs) is ranked No. 14th and Randy Meneweather(165 lbs) is No. 24. Lenny Petersen(141 lbs) is No. 31 in the RPI rankings and Jake Thompson(184 lbs) is No. 33.
Last season, Air Force defeated UNC 31-6 in Greeley for what was also the final dual of the regular season. Dalton Robertson and Rico Montoya each won their bouts against the Falcons.
Following the Bears
Northern Colorado will battle Air Force on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.(MST) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
