Two Big 12 Road Duals this Weekend for the Bears

Northern Colorado will battle Utah Valley and Wyoming
Northern Colorado wrestling is in the dual season's home stretch, as they travel for two Big 12 matchups this weekend.
Last Time Out
UNC snapped its losing streak last Friday, with a 25-18 dual win over Cal Poly in the team's final home contest. The Bears had seven wins, scoring bonus points in four.
Jace Koelzer started the dual strong for UNC with a Tech Fall on the Mustangs' Benny Martinez. Mosha Schwartz followed the win with a major decision over Cole Reyes. After Cal Poly tied the match at 12, Billy Higgins delivered with a fall on Nathan Tausch to push the Bears ahead 18-12. Alan Clothier delivered with a major decision and Dalton Robertson clinched the dual for UNC with a 4-0, tie breaker win. Andrew Alirez made his return to the mat for UNC, winning an 8-1 decision over Joshy Cortez.
Bears in the Rankings
Following the win over Cal Poly, UNC has six wrestlers with rankings in the national wrestling media publications. Robertson holds the No. 11 spot by Trackwrestling.com for his top ranking. He also is No. 15 by FloWrestling.com, No. 17 by Intermat.com and No. 19 by The Open Mat. Alirez is ranked as high as No. 12 after returning to competition. The true freshman picks up the No. 13 ranking from Trackwrestling, No. 14 from Intermat and No. 20 by Flow.
Schwartz sees himself ranked No. 18 by Open Mat and is No. 19 by both Track and Flow. Jacob Seely ranks No. 20 in Track's list, while being No. 23 by Flow and No. 28 by Open Mat.
Clothier earns the No. 23 ranking from Track and No. 30 from Open Mat. Austin Matthews comes in at No. 31 by Track.
Five Bears were ranked in the first NCAA Coaches panel rankings, with the second rankings coming out on Feb. 13. The group includes Alirez(13), Robertson(15), Seely(19), Schwartz(23) and Clothier(28).
UNC is currently ranked No. 37 by Trackwrestling as a team.
Scouting the Wolverines
Utah Valley has four wrestlers ranked nationally, led by No. 4 Tate Ordnorff at 285 pounds. Kimball Bastian is ranked No. 9 for the 174-pound class and Taylor LaMont is No. 11 for the 133-pound class. Tanner Orndorff is No. 22 for the 197-pound class. The Wolverines are ranked No. 25 by Trackwrestling. UVU enters the dual on Friday with a 0-7 record in the Big 12 and 1-10 overall this season. The Wolverines last competed on Feb. 3 against North Dakota State, with the Bison winning the dual, 20-15.
Last season, Utah Valley narrowly edged Northern Colorado, 22-17, in Greeley. The Wolverines rallied after trailing UNC 17-3 with five straight match wins.Â
Scouting the Cowboys
Wyoming sports six ranked wrestlers heading into the dual on Sunday. The team is led by No. 8 Montorie Bridges in the 133-pound class. Hayden Hastings is No 11 at 174 pounds, with Brian Andrews coming in at No. 18 for the 285-pound class. At 197-pounds, No. 23 Stephen Buchanan was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after upsetting OSU's No. 7 ranked Dakota Geer. No. 30 Tate Samuelson and No. 31 Dewey Krueger round out the ranked Cowboys. Wyoming has a 7-9 dual record this season, going 3-3 against conference opponents. The Cowboys faced a tough challenge against No. 10 Oklahoma State, falling to the other Cowboys, 25-7. Wyoming is ranked No. 32 by Trackwrestling.

Following the Bears
Northern Colorado will start the road trip against Utah Valley on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.(MST). UNC will then take on Wyoming on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
