UNC women's basketball announced its 2019-20 schedule on Monday
GREELEY – Northern Colorado women's basketball continues to show they will not back down from a challenge. The Bears 2019-20 schedule is highlighted by a pair of away non-conference games against Stanford and UCLA. At home, UNC will host rival Colorado State and fellow in-state foe Air Force in preparation for the Big Sky season.
"One of our scheduling priorities is to play teams in our state and very near region, a second priority is to complete the contracted games we had in place, (San Francisco, Chattanooga and SMU) and thirdly to really challenge ourselves vs two of the nation's elites in Stanford and UCLA," head coach Jenny Huth said. "I'm pleased with these quality opponents we have to prepare us for Big Sky Conference season and tournament."
UNC's 2019-20 season begins with three straight home games. Regis University visits Greeley in an exhibition game before the team opens the season hosting a pair of teams they defeated last year in San Francisco on November 5 and Colorado State on November 8. The game against CSU is apart of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader.
The Bears lone other home non-conference game comes against Air Force on November 19.
Northern Colorado's first road trip of the season is to historic Maples Pavilion against Stanford who will be ranked in the Top 25 to start the season after making it to the Elite Eight in 2018-19. This is the first time both programs have met.
UNC returns to California again near the end of November to take on UCLA on November 22. The Bruins are coming off a run to the Sweet 16 in 2018-19. It is the second time the Bears have visited Pauley Pavilion. The other game between the programs came in the 2015 WNIT.
The remainder of the non-conference schedule is rounded out by contests at SMU, Chattanooga, Denver and Wyoming.
The Big Sky portion of the schedule starts on December 28 against defending Big Sky Tournament Champion Portland State. The team will have to be road warriors early in the Big Sky season as four of the first six games are on the road.
UNC in return closes out the 2019-20 schedule with five of the last eight games inside Bank of Colorado Arena, including the final weekend of the season hosting Montana (March 4) and Montana State (March 6).
The 2020 Big Sky Tournament returns to Century Link Arena in Boise, Idaho from March 9-14.
