Beah Cruz leads the tournament while Marisa Hisaki sits in a tie for 5th.
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – A pair of UNC women's golfers sit in the top 5 entering Sunday's final round of the Big Sky Championship, helping the team to move up the leaderboard to third place through 36-holes. Beah Cruz and Marisa Hisaki sit in first and a tie for fifth, respectively. Northern Colorado shot an even 300 for the round to jump from sixth to third.
Cruz, who entered the day tied for first at 3-under struggled early on bogeying three of the first four holes to move to even-par for the tournament. She found her groove after that, ending up with birdies on 7 and 16 and pars the rest of the round. Cruz enters Sunday's final round with a 2-under, 142, two strokes ahead of Northern Arizona's Aleksandra Chekalina.
Hisaki posted her second consecutive 71 to move her way into the top 5 on Saturday. She had a pair of birdies on her round both on par 4s in hole 7 and 14.
Morgan Sahm sits in a tie for 30th entering Sunday after shooting a 76 on Saturday. Nicole Polivchak and Jenna Chun are both tied for 39th shooting a 78 and 82, respectively.
Sacramento State leads the event by 12 strokes over UNC
Portie's Perspective
We had a very good day today as a whole. We got off to a slow start again while the wind was down, but as the wind picked up around our 6th hole, the team responded nicely. Beah and Marisa continue to play very solid golf from tee to green. They didn't get in any trouble and that helps when the wind is strong, and why they are in first and fifth. We did a nice job as a team staying away from the big number on an extremely windy day. We are excited to be able to play in the leader pairings tomorrow and have a chance to compete for the conference championship.
