Northern Colorado women's basketball season ended in the first round of the WNIT at Wyoming
LARAMIE, Wyo. – Like they did all season long, Northern Colorado women's basketball showed fight, resilience and grit in their first round game of the WNIT on Thursday night against Wyoming. Unfortunately for the team their season ended in a 68-60 contest.
Northern Colorado finishes the season at 22-11, the program's third straight year of winning 20-plus games.
Down by 11 early in the fourth quarter, UNC never gave in and clawed their way back to down by just two with 1:48 left in the game. A key factor in Northern Colorado's comeback efforts was their defense and holding Wyoming without a field goal for a span of over seven minutes.
During that time, the Bears went on an 8-0 run to cut the UW lead from 11 to three. While UNC held the Cowgirls without a field goal, UW did a good job of getting to the free throw line making seven during that span to hold the lead.
The Bears cut the Wyoming lead to two after a turnover on an inbounds pass led to a Krystal Leger-Walker jumper with 1:48 left. UNC was unable to get any close after that as UW put the game away at the charity stripe making another seven free throws over the final minute.
Three Bears finished the game in double-figures scoring in Alexis Chapman, Micayla Isenbart and Krystal Leger-Walker. Chapman led the way with 14 points, while Leger-Walker added 13 and Isenbart with 12.
