Bulldogs Top Bears on Saturday Night

Northern Colorado won four matches, but Fresno St. made the most of its wins
FRESNO, Calif. – Northern Colorado wrestling fought a tough Fresno State Bulldog team on Saturday night, dropping the dual 25-15. Fresno St. won six of the 10 matches, picking up bonus points in four matches.
"We were a little short handed tonight missing some key guys," head coach Troy Nickerson said. "We faced a lot of adversity on the trip with travel complications. Regardless, I am proud of how the guys competed. They fought hard and continue to do the things we ask of them."
Dalton Robertson provided UNC's highlight of the night after getting the fall on Randy Gonzalez at 2:52 in the 285-pound match. Roberts got the first-period takedown on Gonzalez and managed to turn him for the fall.
The win by Robertson was proceeded by two decision wins by No. 15 Alan Clothier and No. 31 Jacob Seely.Clothier faced Hunter Cruz at 184 and the two were scoreless after the first period. Clotheir picked up the escape in the second period to take the win. After a penalty on Cruz, Clother added the riding time bonus for the 3-0 decision win. Seely battled Ryan Reyes in the 197-pound match, with no score in the first period. Seely earned a penalty point in the second period to take the lead. Seely pulled away in the third period, getting a reversal and riding time for the 6-0 decision win.
Mosha Schwartz continued to impress in his young career, earning a 3-2 decision win over No. 27 Gary Joint. The true freshman built a 2-0 lead in the second period with a reversal on Joint. In the third period, Joint tied the match with reversal, but Schwartz held the advantage in riding time and won the match.
In the 141-pound bout, Brody Lamb got the start against DJ Lloren. The two wrestlers had an exciting match, and were tied at eight after the third period. Lloren managed to takedown Lamb early in the overtime period of the 10-8 sudden victory.
The dual started at 165-pounds as No. 10 Austin Matthews faced Ricky Padilla. Padilla defeated Matthews 16-7 in a major decision.
Billy Higgins went against No. 13 Jackson Hemauer in the 174-pound match. Hemauer would get the fall on Higgins at 4:43.
Nathan Moore made his first dual start for UNC at 149-pounds, taking on No. 26 Greg Gaxiola. The freshman dropped a 6-1 decision to Gaxiola.
The final match of the night was at 157, as Jimmy Fate went against No. 27 Jacob Wright. Wright won a 12-2 major decision to close out the dual and secure the dual win for the Bulldogs.
UNC forfeited the 125-pound bout, giving the Bulldogs six points. The dual was delayed two hours after a replacement referee needed to officiate the dual.
