Northern Colorado defeated the fifth-seed, Northern Arizona, 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon
Lexi Pulley sent Northern Colorado to the Big Sky semifinals with the golden goal in the first overtime period to defeat Northern Arizona 2-1.
Pulley worked her way in to the box and scored off a free kick from Lindsi Jennings in the 94th minute to advance the fourth-seeded Bears in the tournament. Jennings passed the ball into the box from the left side and found Pulley by the far post.
The quarterfinal game was intense, as both teams battled through the cold. UNC's first score came by way of an NAU own goal. Olivia Seddon dribbled the ball to the right side of the Lumberjacks box and fired a cross, intended for Taylor Bray. The ball touched off an NAU defender and past the goalie for the first goal of the game.
The Lumberjacks scored the equalizer in the 61st minute, with Kayla Terhune converting her shot.
UNC and NAU battled for possession to create more scoring opportunities in the second half. The Bears recorded five shots, while Lumberjacks also forced three corner kicks in the second half.
The Bear defense stepped up after the goal and played well to keep the game tied into overtime. Ashley Franza came up big in key moments, saving three shots, two of which came in the scoreless first half.
The two teams matched each other with nine totals and four shots on goal.
