Swim and Dive Just Edged Out by Idaho

UNC swim and dive fell just short to Idaho 152-148
MOSCOW, Idaho – Northern Colorado swim and dive swam well against Idaho on Friday but fell just short against the Vandals 152-148. UNC won nine of the 16 events, but UI ended up with more second and third place finishes to beat out the Bears.
AJ Popp and Maria Heymans led the way for UNC each winning two events. Popp swept the backstroke events by touching the wall in the 100 in 57.57 and finishing the 200 with a time of 2:06.37, Like Popp, Heymans won the 100 and 200 breast. She finished the 100 in 1:04.44 and 200 in 2:21.19. UNC took first and second in the 100 breast with Leilani Herrera finishing in second in 1:05.34.
Emily Hamel and Maddy Moore made up half of the 200 free relay team that took first for Northern Colorado and each won an individual event on Friday too. Hamel won the 50 free by touching the wall in 23.99 and Moore the 100 free with a time of 52.15. Joining the two on the 200 free relay were Doris Pustzay and Anna Austin as they finished with a time of 1:35.29.
Natalie Kayfes and Petra Kis were the two other Bears to win events during the meet. Kayfes won the 500 free with a time of 5:10.18 and Kis the 200 IM in 2:07.68.
On the diving boards, Celeste Llona led the Bears finishing in second place in both the 1 and 3 meter. She scored a 275.40 in the 1 meter and 251.25 in the 3 meter.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado's next time in competition will be at the Phill Hansel Invite hosted by Houston over November 21-23. Last season at the Invite, the Bears broke seven school records, had two NCAA B qualifying swims and six swimmers qualify for the National Invitational Championship.
