Alex Wesley becomes third Bear to ever be invited to the Resee's Senior Bowl
The Reese's Senior Bowl has produced many future greats for the NFL including 12 MVPs, and 52 hall of famers. Northern Colorado's Alex Wesley now has his chance to join that list after accepting an invitation to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, January 21-29.
"It's something I've thought about for a while and strived to achieve," Wesley said of the invitation. "Now that I got it, that means I have another opportunity to show that just because I went to a smaller school doesn't mean I don't belong on the biggest stage. For me, it's just another chance I get to play the game I love against the best competition."
Â
Wesley joins a special group in Northern Colorado football history by earning the invitation. He is the third Bear to be invited, joining Aaron Smith (1999) and Vincent Jackson (2005). Both Smith and Jackson went on to have careers of playing over 10 years in the NFL.
While as a Bear, Wesley had the second most receiving yards in program history with 2,716 yards only behind Jackson. He also is the only other Bear other than Jackson to record a pair of 1,000 yard receiving seasons.
During his career at UNC Wesley was a two-time second team All-Big Sky honoree on the football field while also competing on the track and field team. On the track, Wesley's speed helped him earn three Big Sky 400 meter outdoor titles and qualify for the NCAA Regional three times as well. He is the record holder in the 400 when he ran a 45.91 it the NCAA Championship in the spring of 2018 where he finished 14th in the nation to be named a second team All-American. Â
The Big Sky Conference has been represented at the Senior Bowl for six straight seasons now, including players like Cooper Kupp from Eastern Washington and Miles Killebrew of Southern Utah.
