Northern Colorado will take on the highly ranked Cowboys at Bank of Colorado Arena
Northern Colorado wrestling is back at Bank of Colorado Arena this weekend and hosts Big 12 foe and the No. 3 team in the nation, Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the dual, UNC wrestling will also be hosting its annual Kids Wrestling Clinic, starting at 12:15 for kids six to eighteen years old.
The Bears are coming off a road trip on the east coast, where the team went 2-1 and their dual record stands at 2-3 currently, with a 0-2 record in conference.
UNC dominated Virginia Military Institute, 35-9, for the largest margin of victory over a Division I program since 2008 and the largest margin since
2010. They defeated Portland State 41-6 in '08 and Division II opponent Menlo College, 35-3, in '10.
Immediately following the win over VMI, the Bears defeated Hofstra 21-13, who hosted both duals. The next day, UNC dropped a hard-fought dual against Columbia 19-13.
During the road trip, the upper weight classes including, Dalton Robertson, Jacob Seely and Robert Winters Jr., went a perfect 9-0 in the three duals. The trio combined for one fall, two major decisions, one sudden victory and five decisions.
Seely continues to move up in the national rankings and is listed at No. 12 by both The Open Mat.com and Trackwrestling.com. Seely is ranked No. 15 by W.I.N. Magazine and No. 17 by Flowrestling.com.
Rico Montoya has transitioned nicely to 125 lb and went 2-1 during the trip. Montoya earned a 16-0 tech fall over VMI's Chris Conway and won a 12-4, major decision over Columbia's Joe Manchio. Now in the 125 lb class, Montoya is ranked No. 16 by Intermat.com and Trackwrestling, while coming in at No. 18 by W.I.N.
The Bears will look to test their skill against the Cowboys, who are making the trip to Greeley for the second consecutive season.
