UNC looks to build off of its success from the first competition
GREELEY, Colo.- After a successful first competition, UNC wrestling returns home to host the annual Northern Colorado Open on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Bank of Colorado Arena. The competition starts at 9 am and continues all day.
At the Northern Colorado Open, UNC will be competing against some of the same teams that they faced at the Cowboy Open. UNC will host wrestlers from Air Force and CSU-Pueblo, along with several from Wyoming. A number of other Division II schools will also be traveling to Greeley for the competition.
UNC opened its season at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyo. and had four champions and three placers in the competition. Rico Montoya won the 133 lb weight class and Tyler Kinn won the 157 lb weight class, both in the elite bracket. Jacob Seely added to UNC's day with a victory in the 197 lb weight class in the elite bracket. Jordan Robison had a great debut for UNC and won the 157 lb weight class in the amateur bracket after competing unattached.
Montoya was able to repeat last year's success at the Cowboy Open and hopes to continue that trend at the Northern Colorado Open. At the 2016 competition, Montoya also won the 133 lbs weight class for his second title of the season. Dylan Gabel was another champion for UNC as he won the 184 lbs weight class.
