NORTHERN COLORADO TOURNAMENT NOTES
GREELEY, Colo. – UNC Wrestling will compete in their first-ever Big 12 Conference Championships this weekend, March 5-6, in Kansas City, Missouri at the Sprint Center. The Championships will also mark the first neutral-site Big 12 Wrestling Championship. The Bears will face original Big 12 opponents Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Iowa State, and West Virginia, as well as the five other new affiliates (from the former WWC) Air Force, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Wyoming and Utah Valley.
ABOUT THE SESSIONS:
Both days of bouts will feature two sessions. Session one (set for 10:00 a.m. MT) will feature preliminary and quarterfinal matches, while session two (4:00 p.m.) will play host to semifinal and consolation quarterfinal matches.
On Sunday, session three (10:00 a.m.) will compete consolation semifinals along with third and fifth place matches as session four is the championship bouts. Session four's finals matches are set for a 12:00 p.m. start on Sunday.
ABOUT THE BIDS:
The Big 12 was granted 36 automatic qualifying bids to the NCAA Championships this year, with each weight class having at least three bids allocated. The 125 pound weight class leads the way for the conference with six bids.
ABOUT THE BRACKETS:
Oklahoma State leads the way with five top-seeded wrestlers, while Oklahoma tallies behind with two. North Dakota State, South Dakota State and West Virginia all have one wrestler in the top spot.
Oklahoma State's Dean Heil (141 pounds), Anthony Collica (149 pounds), Alex Dieringer (165 pounds), Chandler Rogers (174 pounds) and Austin Marsden (heavyweight) lead the way as the No. 1 seeds for the Cowboys. Ryan Millhof (125 pounds) and defending NCAA Champion Cody Brewer (133 pounds) slot in as the top seeds for the Sooners. SDSU's Cody Pack (157 pounds), NDSU's Hayden Zillmer (184 pounds) and WVU's Jake Smith (197 pounds) round out the top of the brackets for the conference.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION:
Defending Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State enters the meet at the No. 2 spot in the nation. The Cowboys have won the previous three championship team titles and 13 of the last 20 Big 12 titles. Oklahoma, Iowa State, North Dakota State and South Dakota State all sit in the top 25 of either Intermat or USA Today/NWCA Coaches polls.
The conference boasts multiple ranked wrestlers in every weight class. OSU's Dean Heil tops the 141 pound ranking, while Cowboy Alex Dieringer sits atop the 165 ranking.
