Northern Colorado opened the second half up on an 11-2 run to earn their first lead of the game off a Scott 3-pointer. During that run, UNC held the Fighting Hawks scoreless for 3:47.
After UNC expanded its lead to 39-35 in the third quarter, North Dakota went on an 8-2 run to retake the lead. A Savannah Smith lay-up to beat the buzzer at the end up the quarter had the teams all square at 43 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Smith finished the game with 11 points to go with her three assists, three rebounds and steal.
Howell was the third and final Bear to score in double figures with 10 points while leading the team with five rebounds.
