Wildcat Invite Day Two Recap
TUSCON, Ariz. - The Northern Colorado divers finished out their three-day stint at the Arizona-hosted Wildcat Invite on Sunday morning, taking on the platform for the first time this season.
"Today was not a bad day for Taylor and Haley," diving coach Chelsea Popplewell said. "We haven't really trained on the tower so for them to do as well as they did is really good. Taylor was really close to her personal best, even. We'll have a lot of time over winter break to train so hopefully this is just the start of some really good platform diving."
Taylor Walsh had another fantastic day, finishing ninth overall on platform with a score of 187.90. Walsh earned a score of 216.40 in prelims on the 1M on Saturday, and on 3M Friday, earned a 242.10 in prelims for a spot in the consolation finals. She jumped to a 249.00 in the finals of 3M for a 10th place finish overall in the event.
Haley Schneider also competed on the platform, earning a score of 121.60. Schneider posted prelims scores of 203.25 on 3M and 205.55 on 1M at the Invite.
Savanna Meadows earned 210.55 on the 3M on Friday, but had the best outing for the Bears on Saturday in the 1M. After scoring a season-high 282.30 in the prelims to advance to the finals, Meadows posted a 263.50 for a sixth place overall finish.
"All in all this weekend went really well. We had some really good performances and we learned a lot about what we really need to work on. We'll definitely revist those things and make sure that we're paying close attention to those little details."
The UNC Swimming & Diving team will take a two week break before returning to the pool on Dec. 4-5 for the Omaha Invite in Omaha, Nebraska. The Omaha Invite will close out the 2015 schedule for the UNC Swimming & Diving team, giving them almost a month off before returning to meet competition on January 15th.
