JJ Raterink joined the Northern Colorado football staff in the summer of 2020. The former college and professional football quarterback will coach quarterbacks for UNC.
In his first season with the Bears he was UNC's field generals combine to pass for 1,845 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Bears eclipsed the 200 yards passing mark four times and also contributed in the run game. Dylan McCaffrey rushed for 100 yards on 14 carries against Southern Utah.
Raterink most recently was a part of Coach McCaffery’s coaching staff at Valor Christian High School from 2018-20 where he helped VCHS win the 2018 5A state championship.
As a player, Raterink attended the University of Wyoming where he Rhode’s Scholar Finalist and Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week award winner. He graduated from Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and minor in finance.
He went on to a 12-year career in the Arena Football League playing for multiple teams including the Iowa Barnstormers and Chicago Rush among others. He holds multiple AFL records including breaking NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner’s records for yards and touchdowns while playing for the Barnstormers in 2012.
Not only an excellent player, but a philanthropist off the field he was the AFL’s Al Lucas Man of the Year Award in 2014, the equivalent to the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year.
A Colorado native, he attended Skyline High School.
