Cheyenne Verna was announced as the Assistant Sports Performance Coach on Novemeber 3rd, 2025.
Verna brings a strong background in strength and conditioning with a proven record of developing comprehensive training programs across multiple collegiate sports. Her expertise in biomechanics, athlete monitoring, and return-to-play integration will enhance UNC’s commitment to holistic student-athlete development.
Verna returns to Northern Colorado after serving as the Assistant Director of Sport Performance at Colorado State University Pueblo, where she led training programs for swimming & diving, volleyball, softball, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, and women’s golf, while also assisting with football. She coordinated performance testing, managed return-to-play protocols alongside sports medicine, and oversaw the department’s internship program and budget. During Spring 2022, she served as Interim Director of Sport Performance, overseeing all 20 NCAA programs.
Before her tenure at CSU Pueblo, Verna gained valuable experience at her alma mater as a Graduate Assistant for Sport Performance at Northern Colorado, working with several programs including football, volleyball, tennis, and track & field. She began her career as a sport performance intern with the Bears and was also a member of the UNC softball team from 2015 to 2019.
Verna earned both her Bachelor of Science degrees in Sport and Exercise Science and Nutrition, as well as a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Science with an emphasis in Biomechanics, from the University of Northern Colorado. She holds certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the CSCCa, and Corrective Exercise Specialist through NASM, along with Adult First Aid/CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross.
