Katie Mayes, originally from Alamosa, Colorado, brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to her role as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and Director of Basketball Operations at UNC. A Montana State University alumna, Katie played Division I basketball before an impressive nine-year professional career overseas, competing in the Netherlands, Sweden, and Germany. She graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology.
Katie joined UNC’s coaching staff in 2023, drawn by the opportunity to return to her home state and contribute to a team with a winning mindset. Before UNC, she spent two years as an Assistant Coach at Montana State. Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris, and their dog, Max. Now in her second season with UNC, she’s committed to fostering excellence within the women’s basketball program and supporting players on and off the court.
