Lombardi Named MPSF Athlete of the Week

WOODLAND, Calif. – Northern Colorado's Ellyson Lombardi has been named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Athlete of the Week, the conference announced, following a two-win performance at the Front Range Invite.
Lombardi swept the butterfly events at the meet, competing against Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State and Denver.
She opened the weekend with a win in the 200-yard butterfly, touching in 2:02.46. She followed it up on day two with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, edging Colorado State's Evie Munz by one hundredth of a second with a time of 55.44, the ninth-fastest 100 butterfly in school history.
Beyond her individual titles, Lombardi contributed to three scoring relays. She swam on the 400-yard medley relay that finished runner-up in 3:47.47 alongside Avi Tromp, Martina Yuki Trionfetti and Kyra Rabess, and on the 400-yard freestyle relay that placed fifth in 3:29.94 with Trionfetti, Alexis Mishler and Rabess. She also swam a leg on the 200-yard medley relay that took fourth in 1:44.17.
Lombardi added scoring finishes in the 500-yard freestyle (24th, 5:21.11) and the 200-yard freestyle (18th, 1:57.14).
The award is the first MPSF Athlete of the Week honor of the season for the Bears.
