FARMINGTON, Utah – The Big Sky Conference office announced this morning that Northern Colorado defensive lineman Ezra Ekuban has been named Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in the Bears' narrow 17-21 battle with Colorado State on Saturday night.
Ekuban was a disruptive force throughout the game, finishing with nine tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble, including a key strip in the first quarter that set up Northern Colorado's opening touchdown drive. His relentless pressure helped the Bears force five turnovers against the Rams and keep UNC in control for much of the contest at Canvas Stadium.
The redshirt junior from Parker, Colorado, spearheaded a defensive effort that held CSU scoreless in the first half and gave the Bears a 10-0 halftime lead. Ekuban's ability to consistently collapse the pocket and force mistakes earned him his first career Big Sky weekly honor.
UNC has had two weekly honors from the conference office under head coach Ed Lamb (2023-present).
Northern Colorado (1-1) will look to build on its strong defensive showing this weekend when it travels to face No. 20 South Dakota on Saturday at 12 p.m. MT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
