PREVIEW: Bears Prepare for First Roadtrip Test

GREELEY, Colo. — The Northern Colorado women's volleyball team is hitting the road for the first time this year as they prepare to compete in the highly anticipated BYU Classic tournament in Provo, Utah. The Bears will open the tournament on Thursday, (Sept. 4), against No. 18 BYU with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. MT.
Following Thursday's match, Northern Colorado will continue tournament play on Friday, (Sept. 5), against Incarnate Word at 3:30 p.m. MT, before closing out the weekend with a match up against Wichita State on Saturday, (Sept 6), at 1 p.m. MT.
The Bears enter the tournament riding a wave of momentum after a 2-1 home stand defeating the Washington Huskies in the Home opener and a thrilling five-set victory over in-state rival Colorado State on Tuesday night. Both wins serve as a confidence booster as Northern Colorado takes on three talented programs in what promises to be a competitive weekend of volleyball.
Scouting the Opponents
BYU Cougars
The Cougars have started the 2025 campaign on a strong note, boasting an undefeated 3-0 record. After finishing the 2024 season with a 19-10 overall record (.655 winning percentage), BYU earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament before falling in the first round to Loyola Chicago. The Cougars are known for their disciplined defense and well-rounded attack, making them a formidable test for the Bears.
Incarnate Word Cardinals
The Cardinals also started the 2025 season on a positive note with a 2-1 overall record (.667). They finished the previous year with a solid 17-11 record (.607) and advanced to the second round of the Southland Conference Championship, where they were edged out by Southeastern Louisiana.
Wichita State Shockers
Wichita State enters the BYU Classic with a 1-1 record to start their 2025 campaign. Last season, the Shockers posted an 18-14 overall record (.562) and made a postseason appearance, falling in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to Southern Methodist University. Known for their gritty style of play and depth across all positions, the Shockers are expected to push the Bears in their tournament finale.
