Aydin Rix-McElhinney Wins Gold at Pan-Am Championships

LIMA, Peru – Aydin Rix-McElhinney qualified for the 2024 U20 World Championships by winning gold in Greco-Roman (77kg) at the 2024 Pan-Am Championships.
Rix-McElhinney claimed the title with a perfect 5-0 mark, outscoring his opponents 48-4. He earned the Golden Boot – awarded to the tournament's most outstanding wrestler.
"I am proud of Aydin's performance at the Pan-Am Championships," UNC head coach Troy Nickerson said. "He executed the game plan in each match and focused on the goal. In preparation for the 2024 World Championships, we will return to the mat and continue improving his craft."
With the victory, Rix-McElhinney earned a spot on the United States team for the U20 World Championships Sept. 2-8 in Pontevedra, Spain.
