GREELEY, Colo. – Isaiah Hawthorne transferred to Northern Colorado for his final year of eligibility, head coach Steve Smiley announced Tuesday.
"We're thrilled to announce the signing of Isaiah Hawthorne to our roster for the upcoming season," Smiley said. "As we get closer to finishing the roster, we've been able to focus on what we still needed after learning who is returning, and who we've already signed this spring."
Hawthorne, a 6-8 forward from Tracy California, spent the last five seasons at San Francisco, where he tallied 369 points, 178 rebounds, 46 assists, 41 steals and 22 blocks.
"Isaiah has been a huge focus of our recruiting for a long time, and he fits perfectly with his ability to play multiple positions as a big forward who is also highly skilled," Smiley said. "He has been a part of a ton of winning at USF in one of the top leagues in the country, he's had awe-inspiring individual performances against some of the top teams in the country and he just fits perfectly to how we want to play."
During the 2023-24 season, Hawthorne appeared in 29 games, starting eight, averaging 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds. He shot 43.3% from the field, including 30.8% from three-point range.
Hawthorne recorded a season-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 3-of-4 from 3-point range in 14 minutes of play against Mississippi Valley State Dec. 30.
He saw action in all 34 games during the 2022-23 campaign, starting the last 23 games; averaging 6.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Bears fans are going to enjoy watching Isaiah compete next year," Smiley said.
