Position Preview: UNC Quarterbacks

GREELEY, Colo. – Fall camp is in full swing and the University of Northern Colorado football team is busy preparing for the 2023 campaign. Over the next two weeks, the UNC position groups will be featured.
Quarterbacks
#3 – Jacob Sirmon, 6-5, 230, Sr., Bothell, Washington
#4 – Finn Collins, 6-3, 185, R-So., Tarzana, California
#5 – Shea Kuykendall, 6-1, 205, R-Fr., San Pedro, California
#16 – Peter Costelli, 6-3, 225, R-Jr., Redondo Beach, California
#18 – Hank Gibbs, 6-5, 230, R-So., Fayetteville, Arkansas
UNC head football coach Ed Lamb has gone on record that each position is open. However, if there was a game to be played tomorrow, the starting quarterback would be senior Jacob Sirmon.
Offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach Blair Peterson has been pleased with Sirmon's progress in camp.
"Jacob is progressing well. He's doing a nice job operating the offense and taking what the defense gives him. He sees the field well, has good arm talent, and understands what we are trying to accomplish. Really excited to see him continue to grow and progress throughout training camp."
Peterson and company are pleased with the depth at the quarterback position.
"We're working diligently to continue to develop the QB room. We have talented quarterbacks in our program that are students of the game and good young men at the same time. I love how all of them attack the process of working to be a great day in and day out."
The quarterback room is very experienced. Sirmon played in a handful of games in 2022 and came to UNC via Central Michigan and was a four-star recruit out of high school and signed with Washington.
Collins was a consensus three-star recruit out of high school and signed with Arizona State. Kuykendall was a three-star prospect out of Long Beach Poly High School and redshirted last season. Costelli transferred to UNC via Troy and signed as a four-star recruit out of high school with Utah. Gibbs comes to UNC from Wyoming and played for two years with the Cowboys.
