GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado athletics fans may not know the name, but her work has been at the core of athletics success since the program moved to the Division I level. Kristi Watson, who serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Business and Financial Operations, will retire this June after 15 years of committed service to UNC Athletics.
Watson joined the athletic department in 2008, just two seasons after Northern Colorado became a Division I member of the NCAA. Her daily duties included overseeing all budget preparation and handling all purchases and recruiting travel.
"Kristi has been a tremendous employee for UNC and our athletics department for over 15 years," Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. "She has played a critical role in supporting our student-athletes, coaches, and staff while always displaying BEAR Pride. She will be truly missed at UNC, but we all are so happy for Kristi and her family."
In addition to overseeing the business office, Watson also was the sport supervisor for the soccer and golf teams at UNC.
"Kristi is a great friend and was always a tremendous advocate for the soccer program," UNC soccer head coach Tim Barrera said. "What always set her apart was her interest and care for all of our student-athletes. Although you can say her job was about numbers, it was always about the people for Kristi. She will be missed, but we know she will always be our biggest fan. She has always given our coaches and the entire athletic program her time and compassion. We should all be so lucky to be blessed with her energy, attitude, and fortitude."
"Kristi Watson… Bear legend! Even though it was only for two years, I couldn't have been more lucky to work with her during that time," UNC Director of Golf Clayton Sikorski said. "Kristi is a top-tier human, her dedication to UNC and the student-athletes is unmatched. I'm thankful to have gotten to know her and I hope she thrives moving into the next stage in her life."
Prior to joining UNC, Watson spent eight years at Colorado State University. She lives in Windsor with her husband, Mark, and they have two grown sons and a granddaughter.
