SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- With a combined score of just five-over in the second round, the Northern Colorado men's golf team jumped into the lead at the 2023 Big Sky Golf Championship on Tuesday. The Bears sit four strokes ahead of Weber State who know occupy the second spot.

All three freshmen for the Bears shined in the second round, as Alessio Battista tied his best 18-hole score, shooting a 69 to pace the Bears. Gage Messingham and Yuze Zhang both recorded pars on the day, as Zhang jumped up to tie teammate TJ Shehee for fourth overall in the tournament. Shehee shot a two-over on the day, and remains in the team lead, tied with Zhang.

Jack Castiglia shot a 72 on the day, recording one-overs on both the front and back nine.

UNC closes out competition tomorrow as they eye their first Big Sky championship since 2019. FIrst tees are at 8 a.m. (MT), but Battista will lead things off for the Bears begginning at 8:50 a.m.
