Baseball travels to Little Apple for two games with Kansas State

GREELEY, Colo. – Nearing the halfway mark of the season, Northern Colorado heads east for a quick midweek trip to Manhattan for two games against the Wildcats in the Little Apple.

Leading Off
Hayden Heinze isn't afraid to lay one down for the team. The junior center-fielder has already dialed up three sacrifice bunts on the year, the fifth-most in the Summit League and No. 94 in the nation.
Freshman Jake King continues to have a standout season. The Buckeye, Arizona native logged the Bears' first four-hit game of the season last Saturday versus North Dakota State.
Chase Cromer has been finding a way to get on base any way he can. The sophomore Texan has reached base safely in nine straight contests and is fourth on the team in on-base percentage at .375.
Senior catcher Josh Glenn is a mastermind in batting runs in. The Draper, Utah native nearly won the WAC RBI title last year and is sixth in the Summit League this season with 19 RBI through 25 games.
Last Time Out
Jake King stayed red-hot as the freshman recorded his first four-hit game of his career in Saturday's contest against the Bison. Despite solid performances from various players in the lineup, UNC couldn't find a win versus NDSU.
Scouting the Wildcats
Legendary head coach Pete Hughes begins his fourth season at the helm of the Kansas State baseball program. Despite dropping each of its first three Big 12 matchups, the Wildcats had begun the season with impressive wins against Loyola Marymount, Nebraska and Summit League foe Omaha.
Hughes' squad is not afraid of the long-ball to say the least. With a .492 slugging percentage, K-State ranks second in the Big 12 and 33rd in the nation. Adding to its total base tally, the Wildcats are also No. 1 in the country in doubles per game, averaging 3.09.
Dom Johnson leads the pack in extra bases. His 13 doubles are ranked as one of six players in the nation with that total. Johnson also ranks seventh in the country with 1.86 hits per game. His .441 batting average is also top-10 in the country.
History against Kansas State
The Bears own a 1-18 record versus the Wildcats with all 19 games contested in Manhattan. Northern Colorado's lone win came in a 3-0 affair on March 13, 2013.
Looking Ahead
Head coach Carl Iwasaki and the Bears earn a much-needed break over the weekend. UNC will tune up on Tuesday, April 5 against the Colorado School of Mines before dipping its toes back in Summit League play the following weekend at Omaha.
