FARMINGTON, Utah – Head coach Tim Barrera has orchestrated one of the best seasons in Northern Colorado Soccer history. Barrera has been announced as the Big Sky Coach of the Year Tuesday.
With an 8-1 record in conference play, not only did Barrera and the Bears secure its Big Sky-leading ninth straight appearance in the conference tournament, but UNC's 24 points are the most Northern Colorado has piled up since joining the conference in 2006.
Six of Barrera's players landed on All-Conference teams this year. Lexi Pulley grabbed the Golden Boot Award, Offensive MVP and First Team honors and Maddie Duren took home Defensive MVP and First Team honors as well. Taylor Bray and Olivia Seddon rounded out the First Team selections while Erika Hall landed on the Second Team and Lucy Hart secured honorable mention.
Now in his 23rd year at the helm of the UNC Soccer program, Barrera has amassed an impressive record of 212-182-45. Since arriving in the Big Sky Conference, he's also picked up 68 conference wins, making him the Big Sky's winningest coach, passing Northern Arizona's Andre Luciano.
It's the second time Barrera has been awarded the honor. He previously received the distinction in 2011 when the Bears won the regular-season title.
Northern Colorado begins its quest for a third Big Sky Tournament title on Friday, November 5, against the winner of Weber State and Idaho. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. MT.
