ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – An integral part of the shorthanded squad that made the trip to Las Cruces, sophomore Katelyn Bergin's three individual wins and relay victory earned her Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week the conference announced Tuesday.
Bergin, a native of Stockport, England began her day in the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay. As Northern Colorado's A relay swam over a second faster than New Mexico State, UNC was off and running in a meet where the Bears would win 13 of the 14 races.
Individually, Bergin dialed up wins in the 100 back (56.88), 100 fly (56.62) and 200 IM (2:08.19). Three individual victories was a career-high for Bergin.
This week is the first time Bergin has been selected for the honor and second time a UNC swimmer has picked up the award this season. Madelyn Moore claimed the title for her effort last week at the Intermountain Shootout.
Northern Colorado Swim and Dive returns to the pool for its first home meet of the season on Saturday, October 23, against Idaho at 10 a.m. MT. Admission is free.
