Northern Colorado graduate Jason Alvine steps into the role as the Voice of the Bears
GREELEY, Colo. – There is a new, but familiar voice and face as the Voice of the Bears in Jason Alvine. Alvine, a Northern Colorado graduate, will take over as the play-by-play person for all of UNC's football and men's basketball contest as apart of Northern Colorado Athletic's partnership with 1310 KFKA.
Alvine will make his debut as the Voice of the Bears on Tuesday, September 16 at 6 pm when the first episode of Inside the Bears Den airs on 1310 KFKA. The weekly show will feature interviews with current and former student-athletes, coaches and staff.
"It is a great honor and privilege to return to my alma matter to be the next Voice for the University of Northern Colorado football and men's basketball. It has been a dream of mine since I landed on campus as the women's basketball play-by-play announcer over a decade ago. I know I have large shoes to fill in the booth and that isn't lost on me. I look forward to this opportunity and a new era in Bears football and men's basketball. I can not wait to connect with the current student-athletes along with reconnecting with alums."
Alvine most recently called play-by-play for fellow Big Sky school, Montana State where he was also the Director of Operations for the women's basketball team for four seasons. He took over as the play-by-play announcer for the MSU football team in 2019 after being the analyst for three years. Alvine did play-by-play for the women's basketball team all four years in Bozeman.
"Jason is a true professional and is eager to help KFKA grow its UNC coverage. After one conversation with him, it was clear he would be the next Voice of the Bears," Brady Hull, General Manager of 1310 KFKA said. "I am excited for KFKA listeners to hear what he brings to the table both during game broadcasts and UNC sports programs on the station."
Alvine started his broadcasting career at UNC where he called women's basketball, volleyball and baseball from 2009-15. He also did high school football play-by-play announcing for KRCN in Longmont from 2012-13, and at ESPN 870 in Fort Collins from 2010-11.
Alvine is a 2002 graduate of Northern Colorado and earned his master's degree from Idaho State University.
He lives in Loveland with his wife Bree and stepsons Jett and Kaii.
