Swim and Dive Closes WAC Championship in Strong Fashion

UNC swimming and diving ended up with 49 all-time best times, 26 swims in the top 10 all-time performance list for the program and 17 top eight finishes at the WAC Championship
HOUSTON – Northern Colorado swimming and diving closed out the WAC Championships with a solid performance on the final day of competition. The Bears qualified another relay for the NIC and had five top 10 finishes on the day.
UNC ended up with 49 all-time best times, 26 swims in the top 10 all-time performance list for the program and 17 top eight finishes over the week.
Petra Kis, Maddy Moore, Rose Saya and Emily Hamel qualified the 400 freestyle relay for the NIC with their swim of 3:25.63 on Saturday.
Moore and Kis each had top eight individual finishes as well. Moore took sixth place in the 100 free by touching the wall in 50.35 seconds. For Kis, she finished in eighth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.60.
Three other Bears earned top 10 finishes in Paula Nunez, Natalie Kayfes and Anna Austin. Nunez finished seventh in the 200 backstroke at 2:01.76. Kayfes and Austin's top 10 placements came in the 1650 freestyle with swims of 17:20.24 and 17:26.69 for eighth and 10th place, respectively.
What's Ahead
Eleven Bears will compete in the CSCAA National Invitational Championships in Cleveland, Ohio March 12-14. It will be the first time in program history UNC competes at the NIC after a blizzard kept the Bears from reaching Cleveland last year.
