GREELEY, Colo. – Head coach Lisa Ebeling and her Northern Colorado Swim and Dive team are gearing up for a prolific 2020-21 season. Before we look forward to what's to come, it's worth noting the successes the Bears had in and out of the pool a season ago.
The 2019-20 campaign featured two wins against WAC opponents and a sixth-place finish at the conference championships. UNC handled the Aggies of New Mexico State in its second dual meet of the season (162-132) and blew past Seattle in January (181-49).
On the season, the Bears swam 76 lifetime bests and 25 top 10 all-time performances. Here's a look at the season's best swims:
Senior-to-be Petra Kis took home the 400 IM WAC title for the second consecutive year while Madelyn Moore also landed on the All-WAC first team with her swim in the 50 free. Tori Sayers (1-meter diving), Paula Nunez Blazquez (400 IM & 200 Back), Maria Heymans (100 Breast) and Natalie Kayfes (1650) added All-WAC second team efforts into the mix.
Out of the pool and in the classroom, UNC was one of the top programs in the nation. Twelve Bears earned a perfect 4.0 GPA (Leilani Herrera, Anna Austin, Stephanie Tymoszuk, MichaelAnn Wilson, Emily Hamel, Petra Kis, Chloe Greiner, Sarah Jackson, Tori Sayers, Natalie Kayfes, Hallie Peterson and Doris Pusztay), Two earned a 3.9 (Keeley Coffee and AJ Popp) and five earned a 3.2 and higher (Hayley Stauber, Celeste Llona, Madelyn Moore and Paula Nunez Blazquez).
Northern Colorado will turn its attention to the 2020-21 campaign, beginning the season with a home meet against Colorado Mesa. The Bears will also host northern rival Wyoming on December 5.
