@UNCBearsWrestle Grab Four Wins in Loss to Air Force

USAFA, Colo. – Northern Colorado dropped a nail biter to Air Force 20-15 this evening. It came down to the last match, but the Bears were unable to best the Falcons on Thursday.
It was another traditional start to the dual, with No. 28 [125] Trey Andrews starting things off for the Bears.
With a beautiful reshot, Andrews took down Romero and immediately went to work on top and snagged two near fall points.
With a 4-1 lead heading into the second period, Romero chose bottom and Andrews picked up right where he left off on top. Andrews proceeded to ride out Romero for the duration of the second period.
Andrews chose bottom to begin the third period and escaped quickly, pushing his lead to 5-1. Andrews tacked on another takedown and turned Romero two more times, eventually winning via technical fall 18-1.
This marked the 75th career win for Andrews, putting him in sole position of 14th place for most wins in program history.
The Bears led 5-0 after the tech fall by Andrews.
At 133 lbs., Rico Montoya took the mat for the Bears and had to force a major comeback effort, after trailing 5-1 ensuing the second period. With an escape and two takedowns in the third period, Montoya climbed back into the match and only trailed 7-5. With 30 seconds left, Montoya secured another takedown to send the match into overtime.
In overtime, Montoya gutted out the win and took down Dylan Hader winning 11-9, to push Northern Colorado's lead to 8-0 over the Falcons.
This marks the fifth straight dual win for Montoya.
No. 25 [141] Timmy Box once again has found his championship form, and wasted no time getting after his opponent John Twomey. Box took down Twomey 18 seconds into the match, and racked up 10 points in near fall, and led 12-0 after the first period.
Box chose top to start the second period with Twomey managing to escape and held Box at bay, with the score 12-1 heading into the third period.
Twomey chose top to start the third period, and rode Box out for the duration of the period. Box won via major decision 13-1, pushing the lead to 12-0 for the Bears.
[149] Ben Polkowske wrestled against Jerry McGinty and fell via decision 7-3 to McGinty.
At 157 lbs., true freshman Jimmy Fate wrestled against Alex Mossing. Fate dropped the bout via decision 9-4.
Northern Colorado led 12-6 heading into the 165 lbs. match.
No. 20 [165] Keilan Torres was unable to continue his hot streak, losing 10-3 to Ricky Padilla.
After a scoreless first period, Padilla chose bottom in the second period and escaped quickly, temporarily clinging to a 1-0 lead.
Torres chose bottom to start the third period, and reversed Padilla. After a Padilla escape and takedown, Torres trailed 4-2 late in the third period. After an escape by Torres, he trailed 4-3 with 30 seconds left in the match, but failed to comeback and dropped the match 10-3 to Padilla.
The Bears still led 12-9 after the Torres loss.
Tanner Davis took the mat for the Bears at 174 lbs. against Michael Billingsley. Davis lost via major decision 12-4.
Air Force took a 13-12 lead with the win.
[184] Dylan Gabel restored order for the Bears, with yet another dominant performance. Gabel won via decision 6-0, displaying excellent technique on his feet and on top.
At 197 lbs., true freshman, Jamarcus Grant lost via decision 7-4 to Anthony McLaughlin.
The Bears trailed Air Force 16-15 heading into the final match of the evening at heavyweight.
[285] Jack Kuck wrestled valiantly for the Bears, but came up short of victory, losing 10-2 to Parker Hines.
The Bears lost 20-15 to Air Force.
Northern Colorado will compete next at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma March 4th and 5th.
