Northern Colorado women's basketball welcomes Katie Shepard as an assistant coach
GREELEY, Colo. – Head coach Kamie Ethridge brought on a new assistant coach to the Northern Colorado women's basketball program this week in Katie Shepard.
Shepard is entering her first job as an assistant college basketball coach after finishing her Master's degree in Sports Communications from Sacred Heart University. While working on her Master's degree, she was an assistant coach for Greenwich Academy in Greenwich, Connecticut. She has also coached alongside one of the top high school coaches in Colorado in Caryn Jarocki, while working with the Colorado Basketball Club in Highlands Ranch.
"I am excited to announce the hiring of my new assistant coach Katie Shepard," Ethridge said. "I love the fact that Katie is from Colorado and has played for and assisted with one of the state's premier coaches in Caryn Jarocki (Highlands Ranch HS and Colorado Basketball Club)."
Shepard played at Sacred Heart for four years from 2011-15. She worked her way from coming off the bench early on in her career to starting 28 of the Pioneers 29 games during her senior season, averaging 8.7 points, 5.0 assists and 3.6 rebounds.
"I am very excited to join the Bears family. The opportunity to help grow the women's basketball program under a tremendous coaching staff is a great opportunity that I am very humbled to have," Shepard said. "I am thrilled to be back home and have a chance to work with great student-athletes to accomplish our goals on and off the court."
Originally from Lone Tree, Colorado, Shepard played at Chaparral High School.
"Katie has distinguished herself in regards to her tenacity, work ethic, enthusiasm and high basketball IQ," Ethridge added about her new assistant. "She is a highly motivated person who will bring a relentless work ethic in recruiting and a youthful excitement to continue to build the brand of Northern Colorado women's basketball in our state and region."
