Allen in First After Day One of Bengal Decathlon-Heptathlon

DAY ONE RESULTS
POCATELLO, Idaho – Day one of the Bengal Decathlon-Heptathlon came to a close on Wednesday with Alisha Allen in the lead after four events. Allen totaled 2915 points in the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash.

Northern Colorado sent two other competitors to the meet in Mackenzie Pettit and Claire Harris. Pettit sits in fourth place with 2696 points and Harris is posted in ninth place with 2456 points.

Allen claimed first place in three out of the four events against 11 other competitors, taking top honors in the 100m hurdles, high jump and 200m dash.

In the first event of the day, the 100 meter hurdles Allen sprinted to a 15.16 finish and followed it up with a career-best mark in the high jump, clearing the bar 1.70m (5-07.00).

Her high jump finish sits tied for fourth overall in the UNC record book and is the first jump to break into the Top 10 since 2008.

Allen finished eighth overall in the shot put with an 8.90m (29-02.50) toss, but ended the day back on top, cruising to a first place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 26.18 to end the first day in the lead.

Pettit's best finishes came in the high jump and the 200m dash. She came in fourth place in both events. Pettit tallied a 1.55m (5-01.00m) mark in the high jump and broke the tape in the 200m dash in 26.77 seconds.

She finished sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.67) and seventh in the shot put with a throw of 9.01m (29-06.25), the best of all three UNC competitors.

Harris had a strong showing the 200m dash and 100m hurdles, claiming third and fourth place, respectively.

She blazed to a 26.57 time in the 200m and a 15.21 second finish in the 100m hurdles.

The freshman took 11th in both the high jump (1.40m) and the shot put (7.73m).
