Scott Hewit wrestled for UNC and head coach Jack Maughan from 1996-1999. A product of Colorado’s Adams City High School, Hewitt was a four-time All-American at UNC, placing 5th at the 1996 Division II National Championships, 7th in 1997, 5th again in 1998. Hewit became just the 7th UNC wrestler to win an individual national title by winning the 157 lb weight class in 1999. After his collegiate wrestling career concluded, he served as an assistant coach for the Bears during the 1999-2000 season. Hewit was a two-time Colorado Wrestling State Champion (1992-135 lb, 1993-152 lb) and had 112 prep varsity victories. He is a third-generation State Champion after his grandfather Tony and dad Gary. Hewit’s brothers, Jared and Joey, were also Colorado state champions on the prep level.
