2009 Volleyball Team
The 2009 UNC volleyball team made history by becoming the first program in school history to earn a Division I NCAA Tournament berth. The Bears went 21-12 on the year, including 12-4 in Big Sky play to earn the No. 3 seed in the Big Sky Tournament. UNC defeated second seeded and host Eastern Washington in the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament 3-2, and then knocked off top seed Portland State 3-1 in the championship. The Bears went on to face No. 6 national seed Washington, winning the first set before succumbing 3-1. Head Coach Lyndsey Oates earned Big Sky Coach of the Year honors, Allison Raguse was named a first team All-Big Sky honoree, Kenzie Shreeve and Marissa Hughes earned second team and Taylor Smith was honorable mention. Shreeve was named the MVP of the Big Sky Tournament with Raguse and Hughes joining her on the All-Tournament team. Five of the team’s members earned Academic All-Big Sky honors that year.
