University of Northern Colorado Athletics
The Butler-Hancock Athletic Center, located on the University of Northern Colorado’s west campus in Greeley, has been a cornerstone of UNC’s athletic facilities since its dedication on February 4, 1975. Originally constructed in 1974, the center was named in honor of esteemed coaches Pete Butler and John W. Hancock, Jr.
In 2010, the Butler-Hancock Athletic Center underwent a significant renovation, with investments exceeding $15 million to modernize and enhance its amenities. Further elevating its status, in 2014, the University entered into a 15-year naming rights agreement with the Bank of Colorado, leading to the arena’s current designation as the Bank of Colorado Arena at Butler-Hancock Athletic Center.
Beyond the main arena, the complex includes a swimming pool, added in 1974. The center also houses athletic offices, athletic training rooms, student-athlete lounge, student-athlete academic success center, equipment room, film room and classrooms for the School of Sport and Exercise Science, making it a comprehensive hub for UNC’s athletic and academic pursuits.
