Northern Colorado Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Wayne Angel has been honored with induction into the Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing a remarkable tenure that transformed the Golden Eagles into a championship program.
Angel served as Tennessee Tech's first full-time head coach for cross country and track and field from 2014 to 2019. In just a few short years, he built the program into a powerhouse. A four-time Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Coach of the Year, Angel guided Tech to its first-ever women's track and field championships. By his fourth season, the Golden Eagles were dominant, capturing both the indoor and outdoor OVC titles in 2018 with winning margins of 31 and 50 points, respectively.
During his time in Cookeville, Angel recruited and developed a host of standout student-athletes who set new standards for the program. Among them were:
Reflecting on his induction, Angel shared, "I am deeply honored and humbled to be inducted into the Tennessee Tech Hall of Fame. Recognition like this reflects not just personal milestones, but the support, mentorship, and opportunities I've been fortunate to receive throughout my career. I hope to continue paying it forward through my coaching and by investing in the success of student-athletes."
This marks the third Hall of Fame honor for Angel, who has also been inducted into the Rantoul High School Hall of Fame and the Parkland College Hall of Fame.
Now at the helm of Northern Colorado's track and field program, Angel's induction into the Tennessee Tech Hall of Fame is a testament to the legacy of excellence he built in Cookeville and the continued impact he is making in collegiate track and field.
Congratulations, Coach Angel, on this well-deserved honor.
