Trenton Schultz Places Fourth at U23 Team Trial Qualifier

Schultz wrestled well to earn a spot on the podium in the Greco-Roman 87kg bracket
AKRON, Ohio- Northern Colorado wrestling freshman Trenton Schultz placed fourth in the Greco-Roman 87-kilogram bracket at the United World Wrestling U23 World Team Trial Qualifier. Schultz wrestled unattached in both the Greco and Freestyle competition, earning All-American honors by placing fourth. Several other UNC wrestlers would also compete unattached in Freestyle.

In the 87kg Greco-Roman bracket, Schultz dropped his opening match to JWC's Corey Willett by forfeit. Schultz would rebound in the consolation bracket with a victory by fall over Minnesota's Wyatt Richardson at 1:38. Now in the consolation round of four, Schultz advanced over Timothy Eubanks of Williams Baptist College by forfeit.

Schultz would then meet Quachita Wrestling Club's Justin Villegas in the consolation semi-finals. An 8-0 victory by technical superiority would put Schultz in the third-place match against Olympian Wrestling Elite's Kaleb Gaede. Schultz would lose a close 11-9 match by points to Gaede to finish the completion in fourth-place.

After placing in the 87kg Greco-Roman, Schultz competed in the 86kg Freestyle bracket. Schultz fell 10-0 by technical superiority in his first match against Cyclone Regional Training Center's Sam Colbray. Schultz would end his match against Cavalier Wrestling Club's Jack Miller early with a fall at 5:57. In his next match, Schultz continued his strong performance with a 10-0 victory by technical superiority over American's Nathaniel Riley. Schultz would exit the competition after Stanford's Austin Flores won 10-0 on technical superiority.

Chris Sandoval wrestled in the 61kg bracket and he would lose his first match of the competition 14-4 by superiority to Menlo's Mikel Perales. Sandoval would turn it around in his second match, with a 12-2 victory by superiority over Deven Perez from Chippewa Wrestling Club. A 13-6 defeat to Northern Illinois RTC's Drew West would end Sandavol's competition in Akron.

Sean Cannon would also wrestle in the 61kg bracket and dominated his first match against Cyclone Regional's Sinjin Briggs with a 10-0 win by technical superiority. Cannon would drop his next match, 16-5 by technical superiority to Blue Blood Wrestling Club's Jeremiah Reitz. In his next match, Cannon would earn his second 10-0 victory by technical superiority over Rabid Dawg WC's Ben Vosters. Cannon's time in Akron ended after losing in his next match 12-2 by technical superiority to Valley RTC's Chris Deloza.

Owen Lamb would wrestle in the 65kg bracket, but would drop his opening match 11-1 by technical superiority Oklahoma RTC's Dominick Demas. Lamb advanced in the consolation bracket after a forfeit by Tombola Sinidhebura. In the next match, Lamb battled tough, but was defeated by Northwestern's Jack Tolin 9-5 by points.

Jordan Robison wrestled in the 74kg bracket and he dropped his first match 10-5 by points to Dayton Racer from Utah Valley RTC. Robison next met Viking Wrestling Club's Salvator Arzani and was defeated 17-11 by points to end his competition.
Macoy Flanagan earned a 14-6 victory by points against Iowa's Tristan McDonald in his first match in the 74kg bracket. Flanagan kept rolling with a 7-2 victory by points over Utah Valley RTC's Spencer Heywood. The momentum for Flanagan stalled in his next match, suffering a 6-1 defeat by points to NJRTC's John Van Brill. A 10-0 defeat by technical superiority to Ebed Jarrell from Pennsylvania RTC would close out Flanagan's weekend in Akron.

Sethan Bogulski started his competition in the 79kg bracket with a dominating 13-2 victory by superiority over Ethan Hoffman from the Tar Heel Wrestling Club. Bogulski would drop his next match 16-6 by technical superiority against Blue and Gold RTC's Sage Heller. Appalachian State RTC's Thomas Flitz would defeat Bogulski 10-6 by points to exit the competition.
