GREELEY, Colo. – Swimming and Diving continues to build on its 2016-17 roster with the signing of Julia North. North comes to UNC from Bend Oregon where she was a standout at Bend Senior High.
North earned a varsity letter all four years with the Lava Bears, specializing in the backstroke and sprint freestyle.
She helped lead BSHS to a state title in 2015 and runner-up titles in 2014 and 2016. Bend is also the current school record holder in the 50 free at 24.83 seconds, which she broke her junior season.
A team captain for the Lava Bears this season, her personal records include 1:00.48 in the 100 backstroke and 2:07.73 in the 200 back.
North also swam for the Bend Swim Club and helped the club place third at the Western Senior Zones in 2015 and a Top 10 finish at Senior Sectionals in 2014.
Not only does North excel in the pool, but in the classroom as well. She was on the Honor Roll all four years of high school.
"Julia comes from an excellent background in swimming. She's had the opportunity to work with a lot of great coaches on her way up, and that has put her in a great position for college," head coach Kelly McClanahan said. "Julia will come in and make an immediate impact with our team in the free and backstroke events. Walking in the door she has times that would've scored in the Top 16 at WAC this year. I am excited to get her going with the team next fall."
She was also recruited by Idaho and Colorado Mesa.
