Laramie, WYO. - The University of Northern Colorado men's and women's cross country teams both began their season's this evening at the University of Wyoming Invitational. The men's team finished fourth with 119 points, finishing behind Air Force (32), Colorado State (39) and Wyoming (63), while the women's squad also placed fourth behind Colorado State (18), Wyoming (47) and Air Force (97).
Junior Brianna Splestoser led the women's team with a 18th place finish, running the 2.5 mile course in 16:12.4, while Jacqueline Lomax was 20th in 16:25.2. Colleen Sanderlin placed 22nd and third for the Bears after clocking 16:29.3, while Denise Kintzley was 25th with a time of 16:40.5 and Kellie Callahan rounded out the scoring, finishing right behind Kintzley in 26th posting a time of 16:49.2.
For the men, freshman Danny Sojka was the top Bear finisher, placing 41st overall with a time of 24:39.2 in the 4.25 mile course. Ben Corchado finished 51st, crossing the tape in 25:30.5, while Alex Rice placed 54th with a clocking of 25:50.3. Billy Davenport finished 57th with a time of 28:01.1 and Anthony Martinez rounded out the scoring with a 59th place finish and a time of 28:53.9.
Northern Colorado will next compete on Sept. 15 at the Colorado State Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.
