Cross Country Teams Both Finish Third

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – At the Colorado State Invitational, the Northern Colorado men's and women's teams both finished third with the women's squad scoring 123 points and the men 156.

The Western State men and women swept the top spots in the four-team competition. Colorado State was second on both sides, while Cloud County Community College was fourth.

Senior Danny Sojka paced the men's team, finishing 23rd overall with a time of 21:57.2. Freshman Jason Kearns was 27th with his time of 22:14.4. John McCarthy and Dylan Hedges finished back-to-back in 34th and 35th, places, respectively after running 23:05.8 and 23:21.6. Senior Joe Pummer rounded out the scoring in 37th with his time of 23:26.3. Cameron McQueen ran a 23:48.3 to finish 41st, while Kyle Kusmik was 46th with his time of 24:17.2.

The women's team was led for the second-straight week by Megan Horsch. She placed 16th after running a 19:47.4. Senior Denise Kintzley clocked a 20:18.5 to finish 21st, while Nicole O'Dwyer was 27th in 20:58.5. The other four Bears finished as a group as Haley Hughes (21:10.7), Rikka LaBere (21:27.2), Samantha Pitchford (22:41.9) and Sari Little (22:47.2) finished 29th through 32nd, respectively.

The Bears head to Colorado Springs next weekend to run in the Colorado College Invitational. The first race is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
