Cross Country Teams Both Finish Third At Rocky Mountain Shootout
BOULDER, Colo. - The Northern Colorado cross country teams both finished third at the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout hosted by the University of Colorado. The women's team scored 77 points, while the men tallied 85 on the morning.
Senior Kellie Callahan continued to have a great final season, finishing eighth with a time of 22:48, leading four Bears to top 20 finishes. The host Buffaloes swept the top six spots in the race for a perfect score of 15. Sophomore Megan Horsch finished 13th after running a 23:22, while seniors Erin Apsey and Denise Kintzley finished back-to-back in 17th and 18th with times of 23:42 and 23:56, respectively. Senior Rachel Forrest rounded out the team scoring with her 21st place finish and time of 24:13.
Also competing for the women's squad were sophomore Adrianne Larson (23, 24:38) and freshman Bridget Tiernan (25, 24:43).
The men's team was once again led by junior Daniel Sojka, who finished 11th with a time of 27:50. The Buffalo men had seven of the top eight individual finishers for a team score of 16. Freshman Ben Wilson and sophomore Dylan Hedges both finished in the top 20 for the Bears, with Wilson running a 27:59 for 13th and Hedges timing a 28:31. Senior Joe Pummer ran a 29:45 to finish 21st and freshman Brandon Garcia was 25th in 30:36 for the final scoring member. Freshman David McClelland also ran for the Bears, finishing right behind Garcia in 26th with a time of 32:40.
CU won the women's title, while Wyoming scored 56 for second, the Bears were third with 77 points and Air Force scored 82 for fourth. CU also was victorious on the men's side, while Wyoming was second with 53 points, the Bears were third with 85 and Air Force placed fourth with 91 points.
The Bears head to Kansas next weekend to take part in the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Fort Hays State. Action is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. (Central)/10:00 a.m. (Mountain).
