Alder and Wiggins Named to D-I Independent Volleyball All-Academic Team

GREELEY, Colo. - A pair of University of Northern Colorado women's volleyball players were named to the Division I Independent All-Academic Team on Wednesday. Senior Amanda Wiggins and junior Meredith Alder were two of the 16 players selected to the team.
Wiggins, who has a 3.87 gpa in finance, was selected to the team for the second consecutive year. She was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII first-team last week as well. Through 28 matches this season, she leads the team with 3.70 kills/game and is second with 3.73 digs/game.
Alder, who has a 3.86 gpa in communications, is averaging 2.17 kills/game this season while hitting a team-high .255. She also adds 1.16 digs/game and 0.78 blocks/game.
The D-I Independent Women's Volleyball All-Academic team was selected by sports information directors at member institutions. Nominations from each school were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.2 cumulative G.P.A., had reached at least a sophomore athletic standing and were a starter or key reserve for the team. Two players were selected from each team.
Division I Independent volleyball teams include IPFW, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Providence, South Dakota State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley State.
