Bison Tops Friars For Second Time in Tournament

GREELEY, Colo. - North Dakota State recorded its third sweep in four matches to claim fifth place at the Division I Independent Volleyball Championships on Saturday.
NDSU defeated Providence 30-20, 30-14, 30-24 to finish the year with a 5-31 record. Bison outside hitter Kim Hebl, a 6-foot senior from Stewartville, Minn., was named to the all-tournament team.
Hebl and middle blocker Lindsay Shockman-Rogers each had 12 kills, and Sheila Parrish recorded 34 assists and eight kills to lead the Bison offense in the victory.
Hebl, who moved into eighth place on the NDSU all-time kills chart in an earlier sweep of Texas-Pan American, finished her career with 1,469 kills.
North Dakota State racked up a season-high 12 service aces in the match. Rogers served a career-high four aces and Hebl finished with three.
The Bison defense limited Providence to a .012 hitting percentage and an opponent season-low 20 kills.
