Senior All-American Erin Deffenbaugh added 16 kills and 15 digs for the Bears (14-7) and sophomore Lizzy Rhoads continued her solid play, as she matched her career-high with 11 kills and also added six blocks.
"We battled really hard; we got outhit in the match and just had to fight with a lot of hard, tough play tonight," UNC head coach Ron Alexander said after the match. "When you get outhit and outdug it tells you how hard you have to work to overcome that. Pan Am had their full group of players this time around and they are really tough at home."
UTPA (7-10) hit .236 for the match while the Bears were at an even .200. The Broncs won the dig battle 87 to 72 but UNC had a huge advantage in the blocking game, registering 15 total team blocks to only six for Texas-Pan Am.
Danelle Angus had six blocks while Maggie Ledall added four while also adding nine kills and hitting .328.
Texas-Pan Am was playing at home for the first time since the beginning of September and had won eight of their last nine contests at the UTPA Fieldhouse dating back to last season.
