Women's Tennis drops road match at Wyoming
LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The Northern Colorado women's tennis team hit the road for the first time since opening the season, but fell to the Cowgirls of Wyoming, 7-0. The Bears (5-5, 4-0 Big Sky) were swept during both singles and doubles action.
The Bears put up a tough showing in doubles matches reaching at least four set points in each match. Junior Chrissie Hoolahan (Richmond, Surrey, England) and freshman Laura Wehner (Richard, New Zealand) fell just short in the No. 2 spot, losing 8-7.
In singles matches, Hoolahan, Wehner and freshman Courtney Schulte (Austin, Texas) forced their opponents to a seven point set. Hoolahan, in the No. 2 spot, forced Dorottya Jonas to take the first set 7-6 before falling in the second 6-1. Wehner gained momentum in the No. 4 spot, but it came too late as the Bear fell 6-2, 7-6. Schulte, in her first singles action of the season, faced the same outcome as Wehner, falling in the No. 6 spot 6-2, 7-6.
Northern Colorado will return home to host Metro State at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 7.
