LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Bears women's tennis team will be one of 19 teams at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships beginning Oct. 9 and ending Oct. 13. Over 110 student-athletes will be taking part at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on UNLV's campus.

Six Bears will be traveling to take part in the regional event. Playing in singles and doubles action will be Stephanie Catlin, Chrissie Hoolahan, Adriana Nieto, Hilary Walters-West, Laura Wehner and Beth Coton. Consolation draws in singles and doubles will allow every student-athlete a chance to play in two matches.

Doubles will start the event on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Catlin and Coton will face-off against Alexis Garrett and Anett Ferenczi Bako from UNLV, Nieto and Walters-West will play Sarah Maria Spruch and Emilia Box from Big Sky opponent Northern Arizona, and Hoolahan and Wehner will open against Michaela Bezdickova and Lizette Blankers of New Mexico.

In the first round of action, Adriana Nieto will play Luisa Gerstner da Rosa of Utah. This year will be the first Mountain Regional for the Southlake, Texas native.

Walters-West will look for her first career win at the regional against Natasha Smith of New Mexico. The Simi Valley, Calif., went 0-1 in singles and doubles at the tournament last year.

Taking part in her first regional as a member of Northern Colorado, freshman Coton will face Lily Forlini from Air Force. Fellow freshman Wehner and Santa Shumilna from UNLV will open the first round.

Catlin looks to build off a successful 2012 regional which she went 2-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles. The Basingstoke, England native will play Morgan Anderson from BYU.

Hoolahan also won a singles match at the 2012 regional while going 1-1 in singles and 0-1 in doubles. The Richmond, England native faces in-conference foe Maddy Murray of Montana.

The Mountain Regional is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women during the middle of October. The singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2013 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 7-10, at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in Flushing, N.Y.

The singles and doubles finals are set for Sunday.
