Men's and women's tennis ready for weekend tournament play

GREELEY -- Week two is up for the men's and women's tennis teams of Northern Colorado as they will be heading in different directions to take part in tournament action Friday through Sunday. The men will be heading to Omaha, Neb., while the women travel down to Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Bears men's team is taking part in the Creighton Invitational with actin beginning on Friday, Sept. 25. Singles will start the day's action at 3:30 p.m. The Hanscom Tennis Center will be the host site for six teams. Taking part in the men's invitational will be Creighton, Nebraska-Omaha, South Dakota State, Nebraska-Kearney and Northern Colorado.

The women's tennis team will go to Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday through Sunday to play in the USAFA Invitational. Action will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday. USAFA will host seven teams including Air Force, Buffalo, Colorado State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, West Virginia and Wyoming.

UNC men's tennis comes off a team-first last week at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa. Head coach Mike Phillips coached his team for the first time since joining the Bears staff. The team won five matches in singles play and two in doubles.

The women's team last played two weeks ago, also at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines. A freshman's second-place finish along with conosloation titles in the 'A' Singles, 'B' Singles and 'B' Doubles Flights highlighted the weekend for the Bears.
